It’s time for Matt’s board!
While we were plotting and planning our mmromance series, Burn Outs, we worked with these mood boards to help shape our characters and their traits, backstories, plotlines, etc.
When we were creating Matt, who was the first character we formed alongside his counterpart Colton, we asked ourselves, what if BakugoKatsuki from MyHeroAcademia was 50? What would he be like and then we came up with this world where a small handful of the population were given superpowers.
But instead of becoming traditional Heroes and Villains, they were pitted against each other in these wwe style battles, faked from the start and often rehearsed.
Matt and Colton were rivals in that world when they were in their early 20s. But then they burned out, which is what they call it when the Chosen lost their powers, a natural thing that eventually happened to all of them.
But nearly 30 years after burning out and leaving Colton behind, Matt’s powers come back.
So the question became, what would in fact happen to a 50 year old Bakugo who suddenly had his powers back? Would he seek out his old rival and lover for answers? And how would that go?

Have you seen our Burn Outs Mood Boards?
We put a lot of thought into the inspiration for the main characters for our Burn Outs series of mmromance novels.
Today, we’re looking at the mood board for Curtis, who was originally based on klaus from the umbrellaacademy.
His power is Dark Mirror, which means that he can read the energy of an opponent’s attack and reflect back the opposite of that. Watching Curtis use that power is crazy awesome as he twists the understanding of what opposites are.
Curtis does have Klaus’s penchant for making bad choices, caring too deeply and getting caught up in the oblivion that drugs and alcohol offer. But his character development and journey of sobriety and finding love might be my favorite of the subplots in this series.
Because, there is of course a potential Armageddon to deal with.

We literally laughed for like five minutes straight when we were creating him thinking about how pissed off Diego would be if his power was that he turned into a cute little thing with a fluffy tail and ears and big, blinky eyes.
We also thought that he sounded a little like MichaelWesting from BurnNotice because he’s always got “a guy” he can call for things and knows how to do weird things, like stealing a car and how to sort of legally funnel money into credit cards for his fake IDs.
